About Us

‘Jhunj’ is a group of enthusiasts that is committed towards reinstating neglected dilapidated historical sites and organizing outreach programmes focussed on restoring them, and providing the youth with a pedestal for exchange of ideas on social, cultural, and educational conditions of the society. With a history of several millenniums, Bharat is deemed as the cradle of civilizations. Yet, numerous issues continue to plague our civilization, one of the foremost of them being – the rampant ignorance about our history and past glory. This has slowly translated into being negligent about the memorials, desecrated temples, heritage sites and other places that have historical significance. ‘Jhunj’ believes that it is the onus of our generation to look after these places, restore them and give them a makeover that is befitting to its historical glory.

Earlier known as ‘People 2 People’, the present-day ‘Jhunj’ began as the brainchild of Mr Malhar Pandey, and took form as an organisation with inputs from Mr Saurabh Jagtap, Ms Pooja Badekar, Ms Rasika Kulkarni, Mr Ruturaj Kale and Mr Sushrut Kinge. ‘Jhunj’ is a Marathi language word which means ‘fight’. On the same premise, ‘Jhunj’ – a group of fifty-plus members – is devoted to fight against the prejudices and anomalies prevalent in the society, in practical as well as ideological ways. Under the practical aspect, we undertake outreach programmes, various activities at heritage places, lectures on history for small children, competitions for downtrodden children, cleanliness and plantation drives at forts, and restoration of sites that are bereft of any care from public/government.

The people here at ‘Jhunj’ believe that the youth without the knowledge of its history and culture is synonymous to a leaf not knowing that it’s a part of a huge tree. On the same lines, our ideological aspect stresses on laying a strong foundation about ‘Bhartiyata’ and its values amongst the Z generation. Under this, debates and discourses on contemporary issues are arranged periodically and visits are arranged to old temples for studying their architecture and peculiarity, and profound impetus is given on what we term as ‘Yuva Prabodhan’ which means ‘Youth enlightenment’.

Our Vision

Perpetuating the ethos and values that our civilization has always stood for, along with elevating certain downtrodden sections of the society and defying all the social/cultural/political anomalies present.

Promulgating ‘Bhartiyata’ whilst being culturally inclusive at times and, restoring and maintaining dilapidated places of historic importance.

Our Mission

Work in both – a practical and an ideological way.
Practical, by organizing campaigns for cleanliness/restoration, activities for children in schools, awareness drives for people in downtrodden areas.
Ideological, by holding regular meetups, propagating our unknown history among the masses, devising ways to make people feel inquisitive about culture.
